Lazy Sunday...Tomorrow's a New Day

Today I was so lazy.  I still made it out to the gym, but it wasn't the greatest of workout days.  Here's why.

I put on my NEW workout clothes that I bought yesterday.  Well, I should have tried the 2 pair of shorts and top on, because when I put them on this morning - they didn't fit.  Okay, I guess I'll have to take them back.  Bummer, because I was excited to have some new gym clothes.  But that wasn't going to stop me from at least getting in the gym for a little sweating.  I put on my old pair of shorts I forgot I had.

Then I got my water bottle, I-pod, and cell phone and went on my merry way.  Got to the gym and no one was there, so I had the place to myself (at our apartment complex).  This was a good sign.  I stretched and got on the treadmill.  I turned on my I-pod and oops...forgot to charge it.  DEAD!  Crap!  I hate running without tunes.  This did NOT make for a good run.  Instead I turned on the TV that's in the cardio room.  Trying to stay positive.

I ran for about 10 minutes and realized there was a reason I never wore the shorts I put on.  They kept riding up.  DAMN!  How annoying to have to keep pulling them down as I ran.

When the treadmill read 20 minutes, I just couldn't go any further.  This was NOT good, as I can usually easily do 40-45 with no problem.  I just felt so exhausted.  Not my lungs or chest but my legs and my body were like lead.  Like I could lay down on the floor and sleep.  Ugh!  I got off and went to the bike for a little bit.  I decided to scrap the weights and just go home and rest.  I think maybe I just needed to be lazy today.

Tomorrow's a new day, right?

A Run In...FINALLY!!!!

This will be a quick one.

Just wanted to say I worked out this afternoon and did 30 minutes on the elliptical (still nursing my back, I didn't want to push too hard).  I felt great cardio-wise, and I wanted to do a little more, so I walked on the treadmill a little after my elliptical program.  Then I thought to myself, maybe...just maybe...I'll attempt to run a little.  I started slow.  My back felt okay.  I ran a little harder...still okay.  Low and behold, with this mentality, I ended up running 2 miles.  That's not a lot distance-wise for me, but with a sore back lately, this was a HUGE accomplishment.  Thank goodness!  And it felt great.

This just makes me realize more and more that I HAVE to run.  I am a runner, and I want to continue to run.  Smiles today.  :)

One other thought, maybe there's something to do with running indoors on a treadmill versus running outdoors on the pavement that's contributing to my back issue...hummmm...Any thoughts/suggestions anyone?

All things that suck!

Sorry to be the bummer-gal today, but here is a list of things that suck right now...

1.  I haven't been able to run for about a week, since I hurt my back somehow (I think it's just a muscle thing).  It's been annoying, because all I want to do is RUN.  I've just been working out on the elliptical instead and lifting weights.

2.  I wanted to sign up and do the Kennett Square, PA 5K tomorrow, but with the back hurting, I cannot.

3.  My poor baby girl has been colicky and has a double ear infection!  Ugh.  No sleep for mommy and daddy.

4.  I have to go back to work next week now that my maternity leave is ending.  Boooooooo......

Like I said, sorry to be complain-y, but these are a few things that suck recently.  I'm looking forward to some change (for the better).  Bring it on.

Mother Goose!

Today's afternoon run was a great one.  Of course, I HAD to talk myself into going today.  It wasn't easy.  Matt is the best, though.  He kept telling me, GO!!!  You know you'll feel better once you're done.  Hate to say it, but he was right.  :)

I took a slightly different route today.  It was longer than my normal run.  4.3 miles.  There's a small section where I run through a little subdivision of townhouses where there's a small pond nearby.  Now normally I take in the sights and check out the scenery.  It's springtime, so the smells of flowers and blooms are in the air.  This area is particularly nice and off the main road, so it's more peaceful.

However today, as I came around the bend near the pond, I was watching the neighbor guy fixing his lawn mower.  Much to my surprise I didn't notice the mother goose close to the road.  I had my headphones on, so it didn't occur to me that she was there protecting her babies, until over my music I heard a loud HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh crap!  I nearly jumped out my Adidas.  The neighbor guy saw it, and we both laughed!  Sheesh!  And I usually worry about getting hit by cars.  Now I have to worry about wildlife.

Either way, I'm glad I went.  My legs are starting to get sore, so I am thinking I need to begin the real training and figure out how to make the most of each run.  Icing the legs, wearing a watch the time my runs/pace and figuring out what's going to work for me to run longer distances.
